Toads 2016

Don’t you just love toads! At this time of year hundreds gather together in ponds around the country with one sole aim – to mate! For 51 weeks a year they lurk in marshes, bogs and other dark places and are seldom seen. But come the middle of April and they are everywhere. Some just love to show off , floating on the surface, some just pair up and try to keep themselves to themselves. Often however this can turn into a ball!! An amazing ball of up to 40 or 50 toads all trying to reach the female in the centre. She is so overcome that she could well drown. It’s a hard life being a toad but even harder being a female toad.
