Mist below Curbar and Baslow Edges

The west of Big Moor finishes with steep cliffs down to the valley below.  These cliffs are the Edges.  Big Moor itself finishes in White Edge which falls to a shelf which then falls to the valley below Froggatt Edge and Curbar Edge. The next Edge southwards is Baslow Edge.

The valley contains the river Derwent which runs down off the Kinder Plateau and on through Grindleford and Calver on its way to Chatsworth and on eventually to Derby where it joins the Trent.

This valley can often be foggy, because of the river, but from up on the Edges the fog makes a spectacular sight. Early January gave us just one of those days:
