Darters

The Darters are the last major group of dragonflies to hatch – at least they are around here. We have 2 main types, the common darter and the black darter.  Both like the peaty boggy areas on the Moors and like most other dragonflies they are quite inquisitive and will come and check you out! On Friday I had a male black darter sat on the toe of my wellie for at least 10 minutes until I just had to move!  Even then it let me take one or two steps before it decided to fly away. These darters lay eggs into the water and are often far from the bank.  The male clasps the female in the usual way and dunks here into the water to lay!  Here are just a few photos:
