Eastern Moors staff heard their first curlew for 2013 last week, but I only heard my first one while at Shillito Wood this morning and then there were several more near Swine Sty.  With snow forecast for the next 2 days I wonder if they will hang around or go to lower areas until the proper Spring starts. Evidently there was snow in April exactly 100 years ago. Here is part of an article by the Rev F.C.R. Jourdan showing the Derbyshire zoological records for 1913.

Sadly I have no knowledge of any records more specific to the Big Moor area but I think these sightings do give an interesting view of birds that were around 100 years ago.
